Dat Nguyen

I was born in Hai Phong city, which is a big port city with wonderful Lan Ha Bay. Later I moved to Hanoi to study and started my career in the travel industry. As a person with a great passion for travel, I have spent 4 years experiencing famous landmarks as a tour guide in my beautiful country, from mountains to coastal areas. Furthermore, I used any chance to travel and explore other Indochina countries, especially Laos, which I find a magic place. Since then, I have understood what tourists want and need when they are travelling. Therefore, I pursue myself in a new role – travel consultant with the desire to help customers have great experiences on their trip to my wonderful country.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"I specialise in arranging trips in Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Laos. I know these countries like the back of my hand. Still, my strength is in cultural and outdoor activities: museums, temples, markets, villages, mountains, and waterfalls - I am always ready to consult you about the best places to visit in the county. Another my specialisation is food, you can always ask me about the best places or singing experience and creating an amazing culinary tours for you. "

How did you get involved in travel?

"I was inspired to work in the travel industry during one of the first trips I made. We took an organised tour and the travel guide was cheerful and told exciting stories about the places we visited. At that time I thought what a happy life they live, every day they can see such beautiful places, meet interesting people and make them happy. And I remembered this experience when I chose my profession and worked as a travel guide for 4 years. Later I tried myself in travel consultancy, which I enjoy a lot! "

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"I have had many wonderful trips around South East Asia, but the most memorable experience was very close to my hometown. It is Halong Bay, I was so amazed by the thousands of limestone karsts of various shapes right in the middle of the sea, I couldn't believe that nature could create it, and I was so happy that my country could be so spectacular. It looked like a beautiful work of art!
It was one of my first travel experiences, I was a teenage boy at that time. I and my family explored the bay on a cruise, and the guide there introduced us a lot about the history and the culture of the Red River Delta region, and even me being a local didn't know many of these facts. It was the first time I got inspired by travel and being a guide. And as I see it now, this trip has really changed my life, I worked as a guide and was introdicing this amazing place to my travellers. And now as a travel consultant, I would definitely put Halong Bay on the bucket list for those who are visiting Vietnam. "

Dat was very patient with us because we took time to confirm everything and on top of this there were no hiccups on the way, the guides and drivers were always there when they needed to be and really took good care of us! Honestly Dat was amazing!

This is our first time using kimkim for our travel. We were a little hesitant to go with travel agencies but wanted try it out on this trip since we could not find any local specialists for our Thailand visit. Kimkim and our local specialist Dat came through and made this trip a memorable one. We enjoyed the trip and Dat was just a WhatsApp call away through our entire trip. We were able to reach him any time of the day and he was ready to help us right away. Thanks Dat for that. It made us feel safe and secure while traveling without having to worry about where to go, who to meet and what our next destination would be.
We were in Bangkok for 2 days, Chiang Mai for 2 days and Koh Yao Yai for 3 days. The itinerary was just right. Not too full and not too empty. We all enjoyed the visit to the Doi Inthanon National park and the elephant sanctuary the most. The local guides in Bangkok and Chiang Mai were very knowledgeable and were able to guide us to all places and explain the history and provide context. If only we were able to secure our overnight train tickets to Chaing Mai from Bangkok, it would have been a perfect visit for us.
After Bangkok and Chiang Mai, our expectations were raised for the relaxing visit to Koh Yao Yai but was a little underwhelmed. We shared our thoughts on this to Dat and he immediately contacted the resort and did his best to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Thanks again for your prompt action on this Dat. Much appreciated.
Overall we enjoyed this trip to Thailand and we will be recommending Kimkim and Dat to our friends and families.
Some recommendations for future travelers to Thailand:
1. It would be good to have some input before the travel on what type of dress to pack. Especially if we are visiting temples, we need to get long pants for women.
2. Bangkok traffic is notorious. We felt that we spent a lot of time in traffic going to various places.
3. Flying between destinations takes away nearly half day in each airport visit. Overnight trains preferable where possible.

Dat was amazing and was always quick to assist in our planning and final execution of our last minute trip to Vietnam. After seeing enough videos and reading about the typical pitfalls encountered by tourists in Vietnam, we decided to go with kimkim and coordinate with Realistic Asia in planning a two week trip through the cities and rural areas of Vietnam.

Our trip began in Hanoi and ended in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), with Hoi An, Ha Long Bay and Phu Quoc as stops along the way. Our guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and gave us individual attention throughout our tours. One tour guide, Hue, should be mentioned as being particularly kind and going above and beyond what we expected. He was funny, quick with information and connected with us in a way that made us feel comfortable. He shared his personal experiences and gave us a guided tour that felt authentic and gave us insight into a country that has always fascinated us.

During one part of our trip, we discovered that the bicycles were not the type that my wife was comfortable with and Dat was able to change our itinerary at the last minute and adjusted that day to accommodate. While this change could have incurred additional fees to our trip, Dat and his company made the changes without any further charges. We were grateful and surprised by their generosity.

All the hotels we stayed in were beautiful and luxurious in their accommodations. The one hotel, La Siesta Group, deserves special mention for their friendly and professional staff. Ms. Ngoc in the La Siesta Hotel was particularly helpful in getting a last minute birthday cake ready for my wife and with her help, capped off a great day, better with her coordination of the birthday cake.

Dat checked in with us during the entire trip and made sure that we were taken care of and answered all my questions before and during the trip. We were sure we would enjoy our trip, but with his planning, it was just a great experience with all the drivers and the tour guides taking us everywhere and making sure our experience was seamless and memorable.

We're grateful for Realistic Asia and Dat for making this last minute trip a reality and will definitely consider another trip with them, if we make plan another trip into this beautiful country.

Thank you Dat and Realistic Asia!
