Emilie Khautisen

Hi there!

My name is Emilie, but all my friends just call me "Mili". Born and raised in Paris, I am as French as it can get (for the best and the worst haha).

I grew up among a lovely community of French-Laotian, both my parents having immigrated from Lao PDR back in the 70s. I am therefore the happy and proud result of a mixed culture, where East and West meet. And of course, a perfect candidate to become a total travel addict!

After exploring Southeast Asia on my own for several years, working for tailor-made travel agencies in Laos and Thailand, I decided to settle here in Bangkok, where I happily live with my husband and our 7-year-old daughter. From here, I continue growing my passion for discovery with other fellow travelers and never miss an opportunity to share with them some of my best tips and advice.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"Thailand from the upper, misty mountains down the to warm, crystal clear waters of Koh Lipe in the deep South.

Describing myself as a "soft adventurer", I know how to best mix adventure with modern comfort, always finding the most engaging activities, in the most scenic locations, combined with the most comfortable stays in a hand-picked, cosy and charming accommodations."

How did you get involved in travel?

"12 years ago, I decided to leave behind France, my home country, and head to Southeast Asia; the land of my parents and their ancestors. With my backpack on my shoulders, I traveled through Laos, Thailand and Cambodia on my own for about a year.

While in Chiang Mai, Thailand, my auntie offered me a job in her small travel agency. It all started here, just like that. And it didn’t take me long to fall in love with my work! I had the great opportunity to work in various departments, from customer service to operations to sales.

In the last few years, I have specialized in designing unique, tailor-made experiences in Thailand and Southeast Asia, with a special interest in off-the-beaten-track adventures for families, couples, and groups of friends alike."

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"Oh… there are so many haha. But if I had to pick one, that would be a motorcycle trip between North Thailand and Laos with this cool and crazy adventurer, who would later become my husband!

We had just met a few weeks earlier, and we decided to take a couple of days off to explore the misty mountains of Thailand and Laos, riding our motorcycle from one valley to the next, village by village, rice field after rice field.

It was just pure freedom, with love and happiness all around!"

I can't say enough about the KimKim process and their team. Our first trip with them was a family trip to Italy in July 2022, and everything that they either arranged or suggested was perfect for us and our expectations. Immediately following our family time in Italy, our kids (19 and 21 years old) traveled by themselves for a week under a KimKim arranged itinerary, and most recently, our kids just came back from a trip to Thailand, also coordinated through KimKim. They have proved themselves to be responsive, flexible, and reliable for each of our trips, and we have since recommended them to others.

I have travelled a lot, with the Can military for 23 years and personally. I have travelled a lot, with the Can military for 23 years and personally. Without any doubt, the professionalism and courtesy that my daughter and I experienced from Emilie of kimkim was the most helpful ever. Thank you Emilie! You were marvellous and we want you to know how much we appreciated your attention to every detail, and your availability to assure us of worry-free travel every step of the way. The three days of trekking with Joe and Robert were remarkable. Such care, appropriate attention to our needs, always responsive to our own curiosity, and such teaching! We enjoyed every minute. For our final day in Chiang Mai the city guide was Bab - there could be none better. We were so blessed with her generous spirit and her willingness to make our tour tailored to our interests. Each hotel was ideally chosen, and the hotel staff was friendly, courteous and helpful in every way.
The only glitch in the entire trip was the final pick-up from the hotel to the Bangkok airport. The driver was forty minutes late and unapologetic. The only stressful moment of our brilliant trip!
Thank you again, and again!
