Introducing Mexico

Make the most of your time in Mexico.
Mexico is a vast and surprising destination. Yes, it has beautiful beaches and endless stretches of Pacific and Caribbean coast—but it also boasts 35,000 archaeological sites, 10% of the world’s biodiversity, and more UNESCO World Heritage Sites than any other country in the Americas. It's a cultural melting pot of more than 50 indigenous ethnic groups, with endless tradition (and endless incredible cuisine). There's a side of Mexico to suit every traveler—let us help you find yours.

When is the best time to visit?
Seasons in Mexico vary from region to region. On the Yucatán Peninsula, December-April is when the weather is warm and dry. It's also the most crowded and expensive time to go. We recommend May-June, when crowds have thinned and the rainy season has yet to arrive. The same goes for Mexico's Pacific coast. For other parts of the country, like Puebla or Mexico City, May-October is the wet season—you can expect rain almost every day. Ask your specialist for more on what to expect during your visit. Learn more

Where should you go?
For ancient history, you can't do better than the Yucatán—archaeological sites here include the iconic Chichen Itzá, Ek Balam, and many more. This is an especially good area for a self-drive tour. If you're interested in community-based activities, engage in local culture with village visits to Chunhuhub or Nuevo Durango

Oaxaca is world famous for its culture, cuisine, and world-famous surfing beaches—and if culture is what you're after, you'll also want to put Mexico City, Puebla, and other colonial cities such as San Miguel de Allende on your list. Chiapas, San Luis Potosi, and Veracruz are access points to Mexico's natural world—think waterfalls, rivers, and deep jungle. The biosphere reserves such as Sian Ka’an and Calakmul are also outdoor adventure destinations.

How many days do you need?
Have we mentioned yet that Mexico is a big country? The more days you can spend, the better. With 5 days, stick to Mexico City and Puebla, or pick another region to immerse in—Oaxaca, Chiapas, or Veracruz make good stand-alone trips. Ten days means you can comfortably visit the Yucatán, combining it with either Campeche and Riviera Maya or Chiapas. A trip through the colonial cities would also be possible in 10 days.

The lucky travelers with 2 weeks (or more) will get to experience the diversity that defines Mexico, visiting several regions with different ecosystems and ethnic groups. Start in Baja California Sur and make your way to Chepe, pair Puerto Vallarta with Guadalajara, or dive into Oaxaca, Puebla, and Mexico City.

This was a great trip filled with very positive and unforgettable experiences. Everything worked out as planned. The itinerary we had was excellent and the gastronomic, geographic, archaeological, and artisanal tours were excellent. The hotels were great with a couple of exceptions. They were all centrally located and we could easily move about on our own and explore the places not included in the formal itinerary. All the guides were knowledgeable and spoke english as promised. The drivers that took us on our city tours and long distances from city to city were friendly and drove with great care. All the guides and drivers were very punctual and we could complete all the activities in the time that was planned.

Ximena out travel coordinator was outstanding! She checked in with us every day to ask how the day went and also to inform us about the next day's plan. The couple of times we had an issue with hotels, she was very quick to get them resolved.

The hotel is very centrally located and that was the only positive aspect about it. The room was windowless and had very poor ventilation. Unfortunately, to improve ventilation we could not leave the door ajar since it opened directly into the dining area. The room was not serviced well and one morning the water ran out in the bathroom and it took a lot of time to restore. The air conditioning unit was very noisy, but we had no choice to use it since the room had no air circulation. The hotel was understaffed and the couple of employee there were doing multiple tasks and as a result everything took time. We had breakfast at the hotel the first morning, but it was such a bad experience that we decided to eat elsewhere the next day. We were also very frustrated with the wifi which was very very slow and at times we could not even connect to it.

Piedra de Agua Hotel Boutique Palenque
Palenque

It is a nice hotel, but it is far from the town center. Also, there are no shops anywhere within walking distance. Continental breakfast was served at the hotel, but besides that the hotel did not have a restaurant and since we did not have a car, the only option was a restaurant that was 75 meters away. We had to eat all our meals at that single restaurant, The room was a bit small and it was strange that the light for the bathroom also switched on a light that was in the bedroom. That did not work out well at night when my wife or I had to use the toilet.

This is nice hotel, but we had a bad experience. We were assigned a room with clearly had an issue with the plumbing. The water pressure was extremely low and therefore we informed the front desk who sent someone to attend to it. After sometime they reported they had fixed the problem, but the situation was still the same. It is hard to accept that the hotel was not aware that this room had a plumbing issue, but still decided to assign the room to a guest.

Emiliano was a wonderful guide! This was our first day in Mexico City and he gave us a great introduction to the city and the food. He tailored his tour to our interests (more history over gastronomy) and brought us to some hidden gems such as Plaza Loreto and the Cultural Center. The food was also AMAZING with lots of variety. It was so nice to have a guide to show us the safest foods to eat as we were a little worried about getting sick on our trip.
