Yassine Echcherki

I'm originally from Sefrou, Morocco, which is located in the foothills of the Middle Atlas Mountains, Southeast of Fez. In 2010, I started working with Morocco Off the Beaten Track with the vision of bringing local Moroccans together with the rest of the world to encourage understanding and give the gift of worldly experience to all involved. My goal is to always provide a uniquely Moroccan experience, where my travelers can see, feel and taste what makes the Kingdom of Morocco special.

I have worked for the U.S. Peace Corps as an Arabic language instructor and culture trainer, as well as worked with different travel companies in Morocco facilitating and organizing cultural tours and programs. I have also conducted cross-cultural educational programs for several American organizations and taught French and Arabic at a primary school in Citta Del Castelo, Italy. In addition to speaking my native Arabic language, I'm also fluent in French and English.

At Central Washington University in Washington State, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Marketing and I'm currently pursuing my Master's Degree in Data Analytics at the same university. I also volunteer and teach English to Syrian refugees in the greater Seattle area while providing them with localization and life coach services. I strongly believe that cross-cultural education and international learning opportunities are the keys to promoting peace and building a long-lasting friendship.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"Morocco Off the Beaten Track operates mostly in semi-urban to rural areas. We generally want to give our travelers the opportunity to experience the real Morocco far from the touristy places, however can plan trips to the larger and Imperial Cities (Marrakesh, Rabat, Fez, Casablanca, etc.) if our travelers so desire. In our tours, we visit villages, meet artisans and farmers, and share food with local people. Our activities include community service, historical and cultural tours, hikes and treks, cooking classes, surfing instruction, 4x4 and camel desert trips, skiing and snowboarding, rafting, and rock climbing."

How did you get involved in travel?

"My goal with Morocco Off the Beaten Track is to provide opportunities for travelers to learn about Morocco and to support local Moroccan communities by providing jobs and giving them the experience of interacting with people from other countries. The catalyst for my interest in this was my experience with the US Department of State Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI). I was selected to participate in the MEPI Student Leaders Program at Montana State University because of the quality of my leadership experience and community involvement. This prestigious program brings young leaders from North Africa and the Middle East to learn leadership skills and to study democracy, human rights, and conflict resolution. In my time in the USA, I realized how little Americans knew about Morocco and how many misconceptions there were of the Arab world. I decided to work for travel company that could bridge the gap in understanding of Morocco and the US. I had experience working with travel companies in Morocco, and had traveled throughout the country myself, so I knew what it would take to be successful with this company and how to create and facilitate outstanding programs for our travelers."

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"I will never forget the time I went with my friend to the desert dunes of Merzouga in Morocco. Prior to traveling there, I had not known that Morocco had deserts like this. It was endless rolling dunes of reddish sand, and it took us two hours by camel to reach the oasis we were staying at. At the oasis, I learned different ways to bake bread by the local Berber nomads and got to try their unique foods. Their hospitality was outstanding and was one of the more special things about the trip. In the evening we went to the largest dune in the area and got to see the silver shine of the desert in the moonlight. It was a breathtaking view and something I will never forget."

The person who made the biggest difference in our trip was Abdr Fateh Makhlouf!
A compassionate, forward thinking and our friendly driver Maukhlouf, who by the end of the 11 days trip became like family member.
He was punctual; he incentivized us to start earlier but worked with us on days we didn’t get out at 8 am; he was “magical” in planning the road stops. Not even once did we feel, like it was taking too long to get to the next destination! He planned very timely stops for tea or bathroom breaks for the family.
He paid attention and kept the inside of the vehicle very clean and comfortable.
Thank you Fateh Mouflouf!

PS: Our local guides arranged by Loius and Yassine were all great!

Every other company I looked at had a trip to the desert as part of the tour, and we didn't want to do that. I never spoke to Yassine, but had two conversations with Louis and he was great. The first conversation was early on fine-tuning the schedule, and the second was when our flights were delayed leaving the US. He told us not to worry and took care of sorting out the impact of our late arrival in Morocco. We ended up losing a day in Fes, but once we arrived everything went just as planned. Our driver Salim was very friendly, reliable, and competent. He told us a lot about Morocco as we drove from place to place. We felt like we were in good hands with him behind the wheel. We spent a day with Hassan as our tour guide in Fes. We started at a few sites outside the medina and then spent the rest of the time inside the medina. Along with seeing what was there, we combined it with a food tour. We sampled authentic food from stalls, all delicious. He did a great job showing us around.

In my opinion, if you don't have a guide you will get hopelessly lost and not enjoy yourself. Our guide did a good job. When you are taken to see the ceramics being made, the tannery and the weavers outside the medina it is also a selling opportunity. We were not interested in buying pottery, leather goods our carpets and Hassan was happy to move us along. I don't know who takes a cut if you are to buy something and maybe most tourists really are interested.

Quality of Experience
Except for the selling stops, we learned and saw a lot.

We had such a beautiful trip to Morocco! The riads were amazing and the activities planned were perfect for what we wanted out of our trip. Yassine and Louis truly understood how we prefer to travel and created such a nice itinerary. They built in just the right amount of structured activities and free time to explore the cities we visited. Our driver Mohammad was very friendly and made himself available to any request. He went above and beyond to make sure we saw and experienced as much of the Moroccan culture as we could during our short visit, up to and including adding an additional hour on our drive from Fes to Marrakech in order to show us some sites that were not on the itinerary. Additionally, and most importantly, he always ensured our safety. We would recommend him to everyone as a driver. He was fantastic.

The tour guides selected were very knowledgeable and taught us the history and culture of the cities we visited. Hassan, in particular, was a fantastic guide during our visit to Fes. He immersed us in the Medina of Fes by taking us to various shops, buying us some typical Moroccan foods to try and showing us the way of life in city. He was an excellent guide and we recommend him to anyone. Riad Annata was absolutely beautiful and we enjoyed drinking wine on the terrace at night. The bathroom in the riad also felt like we were in a spa, also providing us with the traditional Moroccan black soap. Because of Hassan and our riad, Fes was pur favorite city that we visited.

Overall, we couldn’t have been happier with our trip to Morocco. We didn’t know want to expect but it exceeded any expectation we had. We will recommend KimKim to our friends and family for future travel planning and will also use it for ourselves when traveling again.

He took is to some unique and wonderful local places for meals as we requested. He was very courteous and helpful. I have never felt so safe in a country before walking the streets at all times. There are lots of check points and lots of armed police and guards through the city so you feel safe all the time. All the local folks are extremely friendly and warm people. Very welcome people. All our riad stays were exceptional with a very warm and friendly staff! Sa'ed at Marrakesh especially at Riad Anita was wonderful. He accommodated a very early 7 am departure but making us hot, fresh breakfast and didn't give us a premade to go breakfast packet. Just felt warm and welcomed through our visit. This trip, beauty of Morroco and the warmth of the local people will always stay close to our heart. He asked me about our interests and what I wanted to accomplish, and between our wishlist and Yassines’s knowledge and expertise, we began to plan our trip. The feedback was easy and progress was måde quickly. Yassine offered up suggestions and within 10 days or 9 day trip to Morocco was planned. Hamsa, our driver, who was with us the whole trip, from when we arrived at the airport until he took us back for our departure, was absolutely great. He speaks English, is polite, attentive, available and ready to make suggestions. We enjoyed his company and he drove like a pro - confident and calm. We felt safe and in great hands. Hammadi, our guide for our first full day, gave us the lay of the land, spoke English very well and was very pleasant to work with. After two nights in Marakesh, we started our three night road trip, to the Atlas Mountains, the Sahara and the Gorges in the south. It was a magnificent road trip.
The whole trip went of without a single glitch, every detail was met as expected and Yassine was available through their site if I had any questions or concerns. The team even had a bottle of sparking wine waiting for us at the hotel on my hubby’s birthday and Hammadi brought sweets and flowers. Very thoughtful and kind. Morocco is a magnificent country, so much to see. Beautiful with kind people and delicious food. We are looking forward to visiting again.

We waited 3 years for this trip and the wait was well worth it! Honestly the trip exceeded our expectations- and they were pretty high!!! Yassine was amazing. The trip evolved quite a bit due to Covid- it started out as a 7 day trip paired with Andalusia and ended up being 16 days dedicated just to Morocco. Over the 3 years of planning he worked with me patiently when I made changes and answered all my questions promptly. He really tailored a perfect itinerary for us. We started in the beautiful small blue city Chefchaouen and ended in an equally lovely small town Essaouira. The time spent in the Sahara in an awesome tent was something we will never forget! And the big cities of Fes and Marrakech certainly didn’t disappoint. The people, food and culture made each day an exciting adventure- we couldn’t wait to get up! Now what made the trip so special and memorable was our driver Hassan. He was kind, funny, knowledgeable and always ready to show us special and unique aspects of his home country. He is a real gem and certainly makes us want to come back and let him show us more of amazing Morocco . Thanks so much to Yassine and Hassan.

First and foremost in making our 13-days encircling Morocco memorable was our driver Amine! While he demonstrated expert driving skills that made us feel completely safe, he was so much more than a driver. Upon meeting, he quickly ascertained our interests, particularly in the cultural diversity of Moroccan people, and set about fulfilling and exceeding our expectations. Each day was full of unexpected adventure: from our first authentic meal of grilled meats and vegetables en route to Chefchaouen, impromptu walks through local markets where the colors of Morocco are on full display, to spontaneous detours to gaze atop the spectacular Atlas Mountains or to search for specific pottery in Safi. Amine knows his country well especially the unknown places off the beaten track and personifies the personal warmth and hospitable nature of the Moroccan people.

While there are too many memorable moments, experiences, sights, and places to capture here, some of the highlights include:
Palais Faraj in Fez where we spent 2 glorious nights in the meticulously restored Bensouda Palace in the Arab-Andalusian architectural tradition. The tile work (zelliges) with complex geometric mosaics are museum-worthy!
The hour dromedary caravan ride through the sea of sand dunes of Erg Chebbi was a not-to-be missed postcard experience! The awe of complete silence when watching the sun set over the sand dunes was only matched by the awe of sunrise the following morning.
The winding climb to the granary atop the Ksar of Ait-Ben-Haddou provided a glimpse of how southern Moroccans lived since the 17th Century (and where a few families still reside).
No trip to Morocco would be complete without a relaxing visit to a hammam for a full body clay mask application followed by a medicinal Moroccan black soap scrub and shampoo. Total rejuvenation!
Our final meal shared with Amine in El Jadida on the gorgeous Atlantic coast was most remarkable! It first started with lentils and bread, followed by a mound of Moroccan salads garnished with fruit and herbs, and finished with an abundant platter of shrimp, calamari, sole, and marlin made-to-order for only 85 dirham (~$8.50).

Exploring the Imperial City and Medieval Medina of Fez
Fes

Walking through the winding alleys of the Medina is a step back in time. Our visit to the tannery where men toil over scraping, cleaning, drying, and dying hides was remarkable. Each souk sells fine artisan crafts including glass, brass, fabric, leather, and ceramics. But, one can purchase all sorts of produce, fruit, grains, spices, and meat (including live chicken).

Quality of Experience
Food
Fresh and plentiful typically starting with a meze of 5-6 types of salad, then a platter of couscous or tagine of beef, lamb, or chicken with seasonal vegetables and/or fruits couscous, finished with mint tea and sweet cakes and cookies. A specialty here is the pastille which is a pastry crust sprinkled with powdered sugar and cinnamon and filled with your choice of meat. Absolutely delicious!

Transport
Amine professionally navigated the traffic and parking.

Marrakesh

Our guide was quite knowledgeable about Morocco in general, and Marrakech in particular. The recently restored Madrasa and Palace Bahia were impressive for their beauty and traditional craftsmanship. Everything in the Medina is a sight to see!

Quality of Experience
Marrakech was so picturesque—so many photo opportunities.
Food
It’s not only the plentiful food portions of deliciously flavored food, but also the ambience—vaulted wood carved ceilings, tiled fountains and mosaic lined walls, rooftop terraces, guitarist strumming soft music, and the multi-lingual waiters wearing traditional caftans and characteristic Fez (red felt hat with tassel).
Guides, Drivers and Staff
By staying in the Medina, we were able to walk to the many souks to shop. However, Amine provided numerous helpful recommendations and made reservations including our unforgettable hamman treatment plus massage followed by afternoon tea at the exquisite Royal Mansour Hotel where the King maintains a suite.
Transport
Amine, as always, was at our beckon call.
Overnight in the Sahara Desert
Morocco

Truly unforgettable! A must-do even if you think you can’t get on and off a camel (dromedary actually). While this is definitely something only tourists do, it is well worth experiencing the sand dunes. Dinner was a scrumptious 4-course affair, albeit late in the evening. The Berber staff played instruments and sang by the camp fire under the stars beckoning guests to participate until midnight. The amenities of electricity, hot shower and flushing toilet make the overnight stay comfortable. All I would recommend is the installation of ceiling fans, if generator power permits.

Quality of Experience
Uncomfortably warm to sleep inside the tent. Understandably, it was the desert in mid-September.

He went over and above when there was a need to deviate from our plan and always without hesitation. Cannot imagine anyone better to take us around (4 older women) and felt safe the entire time especially with his driving abilities. He even took the time to teach us and “test” us on Arabic words in a fun way.

In addition to our friendship with Yassine we also had a wonderful guide, Hassin “Sassa” . His sense of humor made our experience with him in Marrakesh and Fes not only educational but fun ! Sassa’s historical knowledge was wonderful and he helped us understand the changes in the Moroccan culture over time. Together Yassine and Sassa made a great team!!

A huge thank you to all the people involved in our amazing trip to Morocco 🇲🇦!
First let’s start with Yassine who planned the whole trip! Thank you ! You listened to everything we said and made our adventure perfect for us!
Arrive in Casablanca and Amine our driver is there and waiting for us with a big smile on his face which is how he greeted us every day or night! We can not say enough about Amine! He was always available and sssooo very helpful and sweet and kind! His driving was exceptional! We always felt save even in the mountains and the narrow streets in the medinas! He became a part of the family!
We asked Yassine to book us into the Four Seasons in Casablanca and next time I would have let him pick the hotel. It was fine but not up to the Four Seasons standard.
Amine suggested La Sqala for an authentic Moroccan dinner and it was perfect! We had tagines and the food and entertainment were a perfect start to our Moroccan journey!
Amine picked us up the next morning and we were on our way out of Casablanca! Yassine you were right to see the Hassan Mosque but then get out Casablanca! Amine drove us to Rabat with a few highlight stops and then we were on our way to Meknes and we stopped there but our first highlight of the trip was at the Roman ruins in Volubilis!!! Our guide Rashid was incredible!!! He was so knowledgeable and patient with me and how very slow I am at walking! He spent hours with us and we basically closed the place!❤️❤️❤️
Onwards to Fes and our spectacular Riad Fes! Yassine this was a perfect choice! You arrive at a nondescript door in an alley and then you walk into this stunning palace! Loved this Riad so much we canceled our tour of Sefrou so we could just relax by the pool at our Riad! The next day Amine picked us up and introduced us to our guide Hassan! Hassan was amazing! Again he was knowledgeable and took us to the tannery which was an eye opening experience! It was like going back in time 1,000 years! Thank you Hassan!
Our three nights in Fes was the perfect length of time. We explored the Medina with Hassan and then on our own! I can’t say this enough, the people in Morocco are so warm and helpful and kind! Going through the Medina without a guide was not scary and when we got lost anyone we asked was helpful in helping us find our way home! There are miles and miles of alleyways in the Fes medina!
The next day was our long long drive to the Sahara desert 🐪! There’s no way around this but I will say it’s totally worth the drive! This was my favourite part of the entire trip! Because of my hips I was not able to go into the desert on camel but Rob did and he loved it!❤️❤️❤️ I went to our campsite in a 4x4 vehicle and our driver made it so much fun riding over the sand dunes!!! 🤪 The campsite was amazing and the staff were great!!! I climbed up the sand dune and watched the sun set in the Sahara desert!!! The most memorable part of the trip !!
Onto Ouarzazate the Moroccan Hollywood! Poor Amine this was tough and long driving for him but he was always smiling and focused on the road! He is the best!! We enjoyed touring the movie set!
Our Riad was quiet and in the middle of nowhere but the person there was sweet and kind and helpful. The next day we visited Ait Ben Haddou and I think this was the highlight of the trip for Rob! Our guide was a character and as there was a lot of climbing and I had only brought sandals - Amine lent me his running shoes!!! 🥰 God bless him!
We had tea with a Berber family and climbed to the top of the site! It was breathtaking and Rob just wanted to stay at the top all night! ❤️❤️❤️
Now onto Marrakech and the long and winding road!!! Amine is an exceptional driver and he did an amazing job driving through the high Atlas Mountains on those narrow and winding roads!!! 👏🥰
Marrakech is a city like no other in the world! Rob loved the pulse! I loved our Riad Jardines de la Medina! Again a nondescript front door in a very narrow alleyway (poor Amine trying to get this big van down this alleyway!)You walk through this door into an oasis!!! This was my favourite Riad!!! Our room was incredible with two private terraces on two floors!!! Thank you Yassine for booking this treasure!!! I didn’t want to leave!! Our tour of the Medina the next day with Siad was good. It was too long for me but that’s not Siad’s fault! We walked for four hours through the Medina! I took the afternoon and the next day off and sat by the beautiful pool! It felt like a resort at Jardines de la Medina! We did go to La Tanjia for dinner and loved it!!! There was great Moroccan food and entertainment (belly dancers) and we were on the third floor overlooking a busy square! We had Tanjia which is different from Tajines. It was delicious! The hotel recommended this restaurant and I would highly recommend you add it to your list of restaurants in Marrakech!
The next day I had my Moroccan cooking class and this was another highlight for me!!! I thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommend it!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
That night Amine took us to the big market with snake charmers and dancing and singing and stall after stall of everything imaginable. Rob loved it but I was overwhelmed!!! I definitely wanted to see it but it was too much and too crowded for me!
The next day we were back on the road again and headed for Essaouira! Our Riad Chbanate was very rustic and the staff was so sweet and warm and welcoming! I however, was done with markets and alleyways and medinas so I personally would have preferred a large hotel with a pool on the beach! Sorry this is nothing against the Riad Chbanate! I just wanted to go back to Jardines de la Medina! Rob went out exploring and came back for me in the afternoon and we walked for miles on the beach! It is a spectacular beach and the highlight of Essaouira!!! If we had started our journey in Essaouira I would have enjoyed our Riad but at this point I was tired of the markets and alleyways and medinas - sorry 😞. We ate at Il Mare and enjoyed the views of the rugged side of the Atlantic and enjoyed a fresh fish dinner! The beach and boardwalk along the beach was spectacular!
On the road back to Casablanca Amine took us along the coast and it was breathtaking but then we went inland and caught the highway to Safi which is nothing to see unless you need to stop for a bathroom break otherwise I would continue on to El Jadida! Beautiful fortified city and great stop to walk along the ramparts! Our next stop was not necessary and would eliminate it from the itinerary.
Continuing on to Casablanca where we arrived during rush hour and Amine tried to find us a restaurant to eat dinner but it was so busy and traffic was a nightmare and he could not find a place to stop so we simply went to our hotel by the airport and we ate there.
We had to be at the airport for 6:00am so staying at the airport made sense.
Thank you to everyone involved in the making of this once in a lifetime adventure to Morocco 🇲🇦!!! Special thanks to Yassine for all the planning and changes !!!
And the biggest hug and thanks goes to our incredible driver and friend -Amine!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
You are a special person and we miss you already!!! Follow your heart and let it guide you!!! You have friends in Canada now!!!🇨🇦🥰❤️

Hello Lynda!

Thank you so much for your amazing and detailed review! I’m so happy that you two had such an amazing time and have greatly enjoyed sharing your feedback with the team. Amine is certainly a gem, and we are so thankfully to have him as part of our team as one of our amazing drivers! Having your private driver is truly one of the best parts of visiting Morocco and I’m glad that you experienced it to the fullest!

It is also great to hear about some of the restaurants that you enjoyed, and we are happy to recommend them to other travelers based on your feedback. Food in Morocco is sacred, and it sounds like you definitely enjoyed it so much!

Thank you for your feedback about your accommodations as well! We love sharing this information, praise and constructive, and it is so beneficial to strengthening our relationships with them. My apologies about the Four Seasons in Casablanca and Onomo. We will be sure to follow up with them with your feedback.

It’s funny that you saw what I meant by getting out of Casablanca as quickly as you could! Once you see Hassan II Mosque, it’s time to go. Volubilis is also one of my favorite places to tour, and it’s so good to hear that you had such a good time with your guide while there. Same goes for Ait Ben Haddou! I’m glad to hear that Rob enjoyed it so much!

It’s good to hear that the 4x4 drive to the desert camp worked well for you, and that you enjoyed the time in the Sahara Desert so much! Also, so happy that the cooking class went well.

Thank you so much again for all the feedback, and for being such a pleasure to work with to plan your trip! The next time you want to visit Morocco and see some of the other places you didn’t get to like the northern part of the country, I would be more than happy to welcome you again!

Warmest regards,

My husband and I fulfilled a bucket list wish by booking a month long trip through Morocco with KimKim. It was a month filled with marvels, adventures, and meeting many hospitable, welcoming, kind, and generous people of Morocco. It exceeded all our expectations. The local agency that KimKim contracts with is Morocco Off the Beaten Track. Yassine (from MOBT), Louis (from MOBT, and I laid out the initial plan and went back and forth perfecting it until we were all satisfied. Their advice and guidance were critical to the outcome. Then, the hero of our story, Hassan picked up the baton. He executed the plan which included selecting and booking accommodations, driving us throughout the country, tour-guiding from the driver seat, and advising us on everything we needed to know while we were there. We visited Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, Chefchaouen, Fez, Sefrou, Merzouga, Ouarzazate, Ait Ben Haddou, Marrakech, and Essaouira. There were highlights in each of these places, but I will limit this to our absolute favorites: meeting wonderful people in every town, the beautiful blue medina of Chefchaouen, experiencing a Hamman, the artisan capital of the world and oldest medina in the world (Fez), visiting with Hassan in his home town of Sefrou, the camel ride to luxury camping in the Sahara, the "camping" itself, ATVing (they call the ATVs "buggies") in the Sahara, the tours of Atlas Studios in Ouarzazate and of Ait Ben Haddou where so many movies and tv shows have been filmed, and a balloon ride with our entire family who joined us in Marrakech for the final week. Hassan was with us every step of the way, ensuring smooth traveling, wonderful restaurants, and a truly unique and authentic Moroccan experience. I caution any westerner against driving in Morocco. Between crazy drivers, different norms, masses of helmetless groups on scooters and bikes, and pedestrians crossing streets unexpectedly, it is really critical to have an experienced, professional driver. Hassan was truly the best and made our trip magical. Thank you, Hassan!

He even went to great efforts in finding us packaging materials for a light fixture. The SUV we had could have been in better condition. We liked the Riad in Fez, and were happy that we opted for an upgraded luxury hotel in Marrakesh. The Riad in Chefchaouen was only passable. The Novotel in Casablanca was in terrible shape despite being in a good location. The itinerary was very good. We had a relaxing time.

This was our first time traveling since the pandemic started. We reached out to KimKim and very shortly after heard from Yassine from Morocco Off The Beaten Track, who immediately began with assisting us in planning our trip. We appreciate his prompt responses and helpful advice; it was invaluable! Yassine helped plan our overall trip itinerary, daily activities, accommodation and provided other recommendations also. He was very professional, courteous and insightful. He made it easy for us to change sections of itinerary as we needed and understood what sort of trip we were looking for. Once we had booked everything he provided us with detailed itinerary of our upcoming trip, including our travel guide, accommodations, activities, and local attractions and food spots based on the cities we were in. He also ensured we understood and met with the travel requirements for entry into Morocco.

Once we landed in Morocco, everything was handled by our local guide, Amine. In my wife and I's opinion, Amine truly made our trip what it was. He was exceptionally helpful, professional, friendly throughout our entire time. He made us feel safe as we toured Morocco and continually provided insight into its peoples, places and customs. By the end of the trip he truly became our friend and we strongly recommend his services to anyone looking to tour Morocco.

Our trip involved stays in Casablanca, Fes, Merzouga (desert night camping), Ouarzazate and Marrakech. Along the way between cities Amine showed us several other small towns, historical sites and beautiful scenery. Our accommodations met our expectations and we are grateful to Yassine for arranging it all. The experience staying at Riad Fes in the city of Fes was certainly one of our most enjoyable and relaxing moments. We highly recommend future travellers to consider staying at local riads when visiting Morocco.

For Fes and Marrakech, we had a local tour guide (arranged by Yassine) who gave us an in-depth tour of the old cities of each respective place. These guides were knowledgable, friendly and very accommodating. This was an amazing experience overall!

Yassine, at our request, also arranged for a Moroccan hammam massage experience as well as a hot air balloon tour over the city of Marrakech. Both these experiences very terrific and we would highly recommend them to future travellers.

Overall, we had an amazing vacation experience in Morocco. It's unique cities, beautiful scenery, warm and hospitable people are something that should be enjoyed by everyone. We owe our thanks to Yassine for organizing and arranging everything for us as it allowed us to be very hands off during the trip and just enjoy things as they come. Once again, we also cannot thank Amine enough for all his help throughout the trip. We truly feel our visit would not have been the same if we did not have Amine as our guide. We highly highly recommend his services and consider him as our friend now. For those travellers thinking about a visit to Morocco, I would strongly recommend they reach out to Yassine and request Amine as their guide!

Plan - Yassine was super responsive and developed a plan that worked very well for us. He struck the right balance between being too hectic vs super relaxed, esp for first time visitor. Picked the right places with the ability to go off plan when required.

Place - Morrocco as country was outstanding. In a span of 2 hours the landscape completely changes. Starting with beach/ocean @ casablanca - 2 hours - High Atlas (magical) - 2 hours Ait Ben Hadddo (medieval looking, unimaginable ) - 2 hours Dades Valley (rich green vegetation with breath taking gorges) - 3 hours Merzouga - Sahara!!! - Each experience is different and amazing

Palate - Food, esp, for a vegetarian was fantastic. We went to shack in Ait BenH, the look of the place was very discouraging but the food was amazing. The salad they served there could match most salads offered in facing Parisian restaurants. Orange/Olives were so delicious, you could live on them for the entire trip. I will not forget the harrisa I had in a small restaurant in dades valley - after that I probably will not have the stuff that they peddle as harrisa in the USA.

People - Very courteous and helpful, my wife and kid felt safe even in the remotest of places.

Iddir - He completely transformed the experience, I would give him 10/5 stars. I would specifically ask for him in our next step. He took care of every aspect of the trip. Outstanding!!!

Hassan - Great guide, although we spent about 4 hours with him, he was awesome.

Only one downside - the accommodation on the last day was not great - location, food, service was good. The room didn't have good A/C. I have provided this feedback which they have acknowledged.

He made great suggestions on where to eat, and told me things I never expected. He took pictures, and helped me with my things, and assisted me in other ways besides. Samad definitely helped make my experience even more amazing and I definitely want to go back to Morocco some time. He even taught me a little bit of Arabic at my request! Though I am not all that good.

The guides provided were very knowledgeable and were able to answer any question that I came up with, and that is saying something as a man who is both very curious and had a bit of knowledge already in the subjects covered. They were definitely experts and, just like Samad, were quite flexible to the whims I had as a solo traveller. My usual style is to "wing it" for the most part and I still felt plenty of freedom. I felt no pressure really to rush my little explorations.

The one person I interacted with in the tannery tour did pressure me a little bit. Not the Fes guide, but the person from the tannery specifically. And he is not associated with the company. So everybody provided to me by the company was outstanding and made this trip unforgettable. The accommodation at Riad Dar Malika was also great. I didn't expect that the company would rent out a whole Riad for me! It made my stay in Fes all the more relaxing to have free reign over my lodging.

I do not regret my decision to actually sleep in the Ksar of Ait Bennadou. The desert tour on camelback was awesome. The tours were super informative. The views in the Atlas mountains were stunning. This was my most amazing vacation in a while. It's thanks to Samad, and the other great people the company provided that made this an adventure I will never forget.

First of all, the assistance Yassine provided from the day I made contact with him was fantastic. He worked with me to build a trip that would meet all of our needs and the response time was immediate and the details provided were perfect to enable me to make decisions about our trip.

Secondly, our driver in Morocco, Hassan, was so incredibly sweet and basically worked for us 24/7 to make sure we saw everything we wanted to see, made sure we were always well taken care of and was always honest, cheerful, and gracious.

Thirdly, the accommodations were spectacular, from the cozy spot in Chefchaouen to the lavish Dar Roumana in Fes and Riad Bellamane in Marrakech. The rooms and service at each location were above and beyond our expectations.

Our favorite spot was Chechchaouen, were we hiked to the Spanish mosque at sunrise, returned to our hotel for a lovely breakfast, and then toured the city. Hassan provided us with a guide at the last minute, Youssef, and Youssef was a local who spent 2 hours with us touring the medina and explaining everything about the gorgeous blue city.

Our stop at Volubilis was an unexpected delight as well--we spent an hour walking through the well preserved ruins of an ancient Roman city with no other tourists around. A lunch of delicious couscous on an outside terrace at a hillside restaurant in Moulay Idriss completed this stop en route to Fes.

In Fes, we had a delicious meal at Dar Roumana and a full day tour where we saw all of the key sights. Finishing the day at a Hammam, followed by a delicious dinner at Maison Blanche/MB and a drink at the gorgeous rooftop of Hotel Sahrai completed our visit to Fes.

The long ride to Marrakech was a bit more than we expected, but the scenery was interesting and we made it a beautiful Riad and went off exploring the medina--much more commercial and crowded but still interesting. The restaurants and cafe scene is much more active in Marrakech, but it remained our least favorite spot due to the crowds and overall tourist feel and carnival aspect of the famous Djema el Fna square. The YSL museum was a highlight, and we went first thing in the morning and beat the crowds and enjoyed seeing his designs and info on his incredibly creative life.

I highly recommend booking with Yassine if you want a completely no-hassle trip with all details taken care of, as well as the flexibility of a private service at the highest level.

We are all more than happy with the service we received, especially the fast response to any issues that may have occurred. The entire trip went smoothly and the only thing we would change would be to spend and extra night in the sahara! The boys especially loved the sahara, and we were very grateful to Mohammed for being flexible with us and allowing us extra time there to ride the quads/dune buggies on both days. Every single accommodation was just breathtakingly beautiful and we enjoyed the coziness and personalization of all the riads. The guides in both Fes and Marrakesh were very helpful in navigating those two big cities. Hakim (our guide in Fes) was especially helpful in taking us to places to buy specific items we wanted to take home, we would never have found those places on our own. Needless to say we came away from this trip with a experience of a lifetime and we are all truly grateful to Yassine and his team for accommodating this.

We are hard pressed to think of any better experience we’ve ever had with any service provider in travel. We are deeply grateful for your help kindness and friendship

Our guides were really superb, and an absolutely essential key to what was for us one of the trips of a lifetime.

Yousef really did make Marrakech accessible, immediate and “real” for us. His knowledge is vast, and he shared a great deal. His handling of our food tour made for one of the most memorable nights of the trip. He is skillful and friendly, (if sometimes a bit distracted or preoccupied).

Then Adile in Fes was truly a highlight of our entire trip. He is a quiet but profound master of information, history, context and at the same time an immediate and intimate part of the neighborhoods he showed to us. Thoughtful, deeply connected and funny. And he shared that intimacy with us with extreme and subtle generosity. We respect him very much.

The accommodations you found were absolutely first rate and the people around them extremely professional and helpful. Our drivers were friendly interesting and engaging.

It was an especially nice touch to have Yassine’s brother Hassan meet us in Fes with a welcome gift and careful advice about how to manage our extraordinary visit there.

If we have one piece of constructive feedback, it would be that you might have the guides spend a little time really trying to discern whether we want to be exposed to various merchant demonstrations. We understand that this is something probably most of your customers do want – and that it is probably also an important part of the economic viability of the business. However there were a couple of occasions on which we were presented with lengthy demonstrations in merchants that we had said we simply weren’t interested in only to sense that our decision not to make a purchase was significantly frustrating or disappointing to the merchant – and the guide. We understand that this is probably a difficult balancing act, and that your customers will sometimes surprise themselves by actually being interested in and making a purchase at one place or another. (As we did in buying a modest fountain in Fes). I think the key is to ensure that at the end of the transaction – whether the sale is made or not, we as the customers do not feel that we may have disappointed our guide or the merchants and perhaps changed the mood of the tour for a bit.

All in all, we could not be more happy with or grateful for your services. And we have already made what we believe will be a successful referral to you directly as soo all in all, we could not be more happy with our grateful for your services. And we have already made what we believe will be a successful referral to you directly Yassine.

Thank you again.
PS, would it be of any help to you to post the positive parts above to TripAdvisor?

Everything about this trip including planning it with kimkim and Yassine was great from start to finish.

I liked that kimkim allowed me to peruse multiple 5- to 10- to 15-day itineraries for Morocco prior to engaging with my local specialist, Yassine, so that I could get an idea of what was feasible in what amount of time and familiarize myself with all options which enabled me to better brief Yassine.

Yassine (from Morocco Off the Beaten Track) was wonderful to work with from Day 1 - prompt, accurate, friendly and patient. Our trip was complicated - we were three parties flying in from separate international locations, we were planning to stay in Morocco during Eid holidays (everything is closed), and we had very strong preferences in the group - the trip he planned exceeded our expectations and went off without a hitch.

Mohammed, our driver throughout the trip, was an indispensable member of our travel crew - he was everything you'd wish for in a driver (prompt, polite, safe, reliable, flexible) but also far and beyond: he was incredibly open to sharing stories and information about life in Morocco, we always laughed together on drives and he made great impromptu recommendations. Plain and simple, we would not have enjoyed our trip nearly as much without Mohammed.

Similarly, all of our guides (we had guides in Rabat, Marrakech, and Imlil) were very knowledgable, enjoyable, showed us hidden gems (where locals buy argan oil, neighborhood bakers, etc.) and gave us great context to the cities we were visiting. Our guide, Hicham, in Rabat kept us busy all day (bring sunscreen!) and kept us laughing with his great story telling skills - we left feeling we had really seen Rabat's history and learned the "fun facts". In Marrakech, we had a Moroccan cooking class, and the ladies of Cafe Clock were extremely friendly, warm and had wonderful knowledge to share on Moroccan food from selecting ingredients, to cooking, to the dishes orgins, etc. Our guide, Ibrahim, in Imlil welcomed us into his home for a meal with his family and guided on us on an unforgettable hike through Toubkal National Park (truly an amazing experience, we'd highly recommend).

All of our Riads were beautiful and different - difficult for me to say which was my favorite, except that I'd recommend staying in a few different ones so you can experience the variety. All were clean, comfortable and had excellent service, though varied in modernity and spaciousness. Same to be said for all our hotels - everything was lovely (all 5-star rated, so not surprising, but neither did they disappoint).

All there is left to say is THANK YOU to Yassine at Morocco off the Beaten Track and kimkim for planning an amazing trip for my family and I!

We absolutely loved our driver, Ismail! Not only was he a very safe, cautious driver, but he was such a great companion to have with us. He pointed out various things along the way, made sure we were always comfortable, and on Friday afternoon, he kept his cool in all the crazy Casablanca traffic. He definitely made our driving time enjoyable. I feel like we were leaving a good friend when we said good-bye to him at the airport.

Our guide in Chefchaouen, Yosef, was equally as great. One of the high points of the entire week was sitting alongside the river at lunch with Yosef and Issmail. It was relaxing, super tasty and something we had no idea we would get to enjoy. We were able to engage, learn, and just enjoy the country, the culture and speak freely.

The Hammam! We didn't know what to expect and that made the adventure all the more fun! A definite must do!

The home visit was so much fun. Not only was it relaxing, very tasty, but it was great fun having Yousef and Issmail there with us. Super evening!

The two riads were beautiful, welcoming, relaxing and a comfortable, quiet respite after our days of touring. Hospitality at both was over the top! We felt like royalty.

The ENTIRE experience was more than we could have ever imagined.
Thank you for making our 25th wedding anniversary the trip of a lifetime!

This was my first time using KimKim and I will definitely use them for travel again. Every part of the experience was amazing - planning, accommodations/experiences, and our driver. The planning process was pleasant and efficient all thanks to Yassine. He was extremely responsive and patient. He worked with me to plan an amazing 5 year anniversary trip that my wife and I loved. I had a rough idea of all the things I wanted to do and he used his expertise of Morocco to help tailor a trip that would best accommodate it all. Thanks to Yassine, my wife and I traveled worry free as we went from one amazing experience to the next.
We arrived in Marrakesh and were picked up by our Riad (pre-arranged with the help of Yassine). We explored the markets in Marrakesh and the famous Jemaa el-Fnaa square. We had dinner in a restaurant that overlooked the square as we watched all the commotion below us. The next morning, we were picked up by our driver, Ishmael, to start our journey to the desert. It was a very long trip to the desert. I am so happy that Yassine recommended we break it up into two days. Day 1, our drive time was about 3-4 hours. Day 2, the drive time was about 5-6. The hotel we stayed in overnight in Ouarzazate was one of the highlights of our trip. It was called Caravane and it was amazing. It was a quaint, French inspired hotel with friendly staff and amazing food. In fact, the best food we had on our trip was at Caravane (their Chef lives in a local Kasbah close by). After Ouarzazate, Ishmael drove us to Merzouga where we started our desert stay with a 1 hr camel ride into the Sahara Desert to our tent in Luxury Camp Chebbi! The whole desert experience was the highlight of our trip. It was extremely romantic and the tents offered a "glamping" appeal as they had showers, toilets, running water, etc. The sunset & sunrise over the Sahara were spectacular and so was the stargazing at night. I can't say enough about our desert experience. After the desert, we returned to Marrakesh for a hot air balloon ride on our actual anniversary day. We then took a train to Casablanca and stayed in a hotel where, shortly after check-in, we were presented with a little surprise anniversary treat - courtesy of Yassine and the rest of the staff. Speaking of staff, I have to give our driver Ishmael a special shout out. He was an amazing travel companion to my wife and I. His driving was perfect. He would stop whenever and wherever we wanted along the way. He talked and conversed with us and let us sleep or played music when we just wanted to relax. He often stopped to get us bottled water and just always knew what we needed before we asked. He was always on time to pick us up in the morning and was extremely patient whenever we ventured off to different activities while he waited on us. Ishmael truly enhanced our experience and we're so glad he was our driver.
Overall, I was very pleased with the entire travel experience and highly recommend Yassine and the team to anyone interested in visiting Morocco. We have traveled a lot in the past 5 years and this trip was right at the top with the best of them. Thanks for a wonderful experience Yassine and team!

My husband and I had a phenomenal trip in Morocco organised by Yassine and the Team from MOBT, and I would be delighted to recommend them to anyone looking to travel to Morocco for the first time.

Booking Experience:
One of the great benefits of working with a locally based travel specialist is that you receive reliable guidance and recommendations for a country you may not be familiar with. In planning the trip Yassine thoughtfully made me aware of several logistical considerations, for example regarding realistic travel times, and also recommended some less well-known regions and destinations to visit. He helped us tailor an itinerary that catered for our interests and maximised our short 7 days in the country.

Yassine was highly professional, always responsive, and knowledgeable. The information provided before the trip was detailed and gave us some great preparation tips.

For anyone traveling from Australia, I can also confirm that coordinating information with Yassine was significantly easier and faster than with a local agent. In addition, he was happy provide us with all the required info for Smart Traveller.

In Country Experience:
We couldn’t be happier and more grateful for the warm welcome and support we received from the MOBT team.

The highlight of any trip is the people you meet along the way, and we truly cherished the opportunity to get to know our driver Ismail. Apart from being a very thoughtful, kind, and warm person – he’s also one heck of a competent driver. It was so sad to say goodbye and we wished we got to have more conversations with Ismail. He was so patient with our questions and taught us both a lot about Morocco.

All the guides we encountered were professional and knowledgeable. Of particular value was their savvy planning of our days in Marrakesh and Fes, since they were able to predict which places would be crowded, so we were always at the right place at the right time, avoiding all the cues.

We were also grateful that Hassan joined us on one of the days, it was a pleasure to meet him, and we really appreciated that MOBT team members checked in with us regularly during the trip.

Finally, the accommodation selected by MOBT could not have been better. Every hotel/riad was comfortable, beautiful, had incredible service, and was easy to find in the medina.

Travelling to Morocco:
If you’ve not been to Morocco before, do not hesitate to plan your visit. I would recommend researching and preparing well, understanding a little about the culture beforehand, and you will have a brilliant trip.

Whatever your interest, you will find something that you will enjoy and find beauty in. For me, as an avid reader and history buff, Morocco was a treasure trove of incredible sights and meaningful discoveries. It was really a transformative experience, and we now understand a little more about the world than we did before – something that you should take away from every new place. It’s hard to name a highlight - the whole experience was fantastic from start to finish - but I think getting up early in the morning to listen to the call to prayer and watch the sunrise for the first time in Marrakesh was one of the most moving memories I have.

Thank you to Yassine, Hassan, of course Ismail, and everyone at MOBT for helping us have an amazing adventure. We will be returning to Morocco, there is so much more to explore!

Having a driver really helped us to visit the maximum number of places, with the minimum amount of stress. We also had a good balance of leisure time to educational time. If you are considering a trip to Morocco, don't miss out on camping with the Bedouins, and the camel ride into camp. The scenery is amazing. Your friends will all be jealous. I have only 1 suggestion: it seems that all of the riads that we stayed in put us on the 3rd floor. I'm not sure why. The problem is that I have knee issues. They are not TOO bad, but the steps in Morocco seem to be higher than the steps elsewhere. The first riad in Fez, I had to climb the steps on my hands and knees. (not too dignified) Luckily, they moved us for the second night. So I suggest asking your clients about knee issues, and booking rooms accordingly. BTW, every riad we stayed at was photograph worthy. Thanks to kimkim and Yassine, who organized a wonderful trip for us to Morocco's imperial cities of Marrakesh, Rabat, Meknes, and Fez, along with visits to the coastal city of Essaouira and the commercial hub of Casablanca. Planning our trip was a breeze. Once I told Yassine we were particularly interested in food, history and culture, he recommended places to visit. I did some research and we settled on an itinerary. Although we spent a bit of time driving between destinations, that was an interesting experience in itself, seeing the rich farmlands and remote villages. Yassine selected several beautiful riads, bed & breakfasts which are elegantly refurbished homes located in the middle of the old city Medinas. The riads, with their central courtyards and lovely detailed tile work and wood carvings, were a quiet oasis and gave us a genuine feeling for Moroccan history and culture.

We began our journey with a few hiccups, arriving late to our connecting flight from Casablanca to Marrakesh. Our driver, Muhammed, coordinated to have us driven instead of waiting 4 and 1/2 hours for the next flight. When we weren't able to retrieve our luggage, we waited two days before it caught up to us. In the meantime, Muhammed was terrific. He was warm, friendly, flexible, and completely reliable. He patiently took us back to the Marrakesh Airport several times until the luggage finally arrived.

Although we enjoyed our entire trip, we particularly loved walking through the Kasbah of Rabat, the bustling Medina of Fez, and visiting the beautiful beaches of Essaouira. Our guides in Marrakesh, Rabat and Fez all gave us wonderful historical background on each of the cities and a sense of present day Morocco.

Our only regret is that we didn't have more time to explore this beautiful country. We will definitely use kimkim and Yassine to plan our next visit!

Our entire experience with KimKim was effortless. From the initial and follow-up planning with Yassine to the final follow-up was a great experience. We were met at the Marrakesh airport by a young man named Ismael. We could not have asked for a better person to be our driver and to spend the trip with. He was engaging, courteous, helpful and a very cautious and competent driver. Interacting with him was one of the highlights of our trip. We checked into the Riad Melhoun which was beautiful and the staff was very accommodating. The next morning we were met by our tour guide, Mohammed. He spent the entire day taking thru Marrakesh and showing us the highlights, along with some very local spots such as the community baker and community Tagine oven and caretaker. He also introduced us to local craftsman who made ironwork, leather products etc. He ended the day with us at the main square in Marrakesh awaiting sunset. The next day we headed to Ouarzazate, the drive was very scenic and kept our interest. We stopped for a pleasant lunch and then climbed to the ancient village, Ait Benhaddou. The views were spectacular from this ancient village. We stayed out Le Temple Des Arts which had “themed” suites. Once again, the staff was very kind and accommodating and we had a very nice dinner at the restaurant there. The next morning we were off to Merzouga for our camel trip into the Sahara. Along the way we stopped at Dades Gorge which was very scenic and a nice walking break. We had lunch in the local village just outside the Gorge. We arrived in Merouza around 5:15 to begin our camel ride for our overnight stay in the Sahara. The ride was about two hours and our guide into the desert was personable and he took great photos for all of us. We stopped before reaching camp so we could enjoy the sunset. We arrived at Luxury Camp Chebbi, and everything was set up for us. After a nice sit around a fire, we were ready for dinner. The dinner was amazing, and our favorite was a tomato, eggplant and goat cheese dish cooked in a tagine. We decided we wanted to take the chef, Omar, back to the USA so we could have his delicious food again. The next morning we went back to Merouza via 4 wheel drive since we had a long drive to Fes. We wanted to ride the camels back but the two hours would have made that difficult to arrive at a decent time. Along our journey, we stopped at a local weekly market that had all kinds of produce, fruit, etc. We never knew there were so many different type of dates. It was very interesting to see how the locals come to these weekly markets to get their goods. We later stopped in Ifrane which is a completely different, but was a nice stop for a coffee and a stroll around town. Later in the day we arrived in Fes and went to Dar Roumana to check in. This Dar is absolutely beautiful. Later that evening we were taken to a local restaurant, Dar Hatim. This restaurant served us perhaps the best Moroccan salad and a lamb tagine that was so tender and tasty. The next morning we met our guide, Hakim, to begin our tour of Fes. We first took a drive to see the Medina from above and then went back so we could start walking thru town. We went thru the blue gate and wandered thru the souks and stopped at the tannery (use the mint leaves), then later stopped at a weavers store. The craftsmanship was amazing to see. We later went to a tile shop/school where they make the most beautiful pottery, mosaics, vases, etc. This place was also a school that trained locals to become artisans. Our guide then took us back to Dar Roumana around 6 pm. The staff arranged for a guide to get us the Clock Cafe where they had some local music and a nice dinner on the top terrace. The alleys and streets with the Medina of Fes are overwhelming and easy to lose your way so we appreciated the assistance, otherwise we might still be wondering around Fes. The next morning we departed to head to Chefchaouen. Our first stop was at Meknes to take a look at the ancient stables where they had 12,000 horses. We then motored along to the the Roman ruins, Volubilis and walked around the area for a while looking at the layout. The area was very scenic and had great views. Our next stop was Moulay Idriss. We checked into a very charming place called Dar Mez which was very quaint and colorful and had absolute great views of the city. We then wondered around the beautiful Medina of Chefchaouen till around 10 pm. We the tried to make our way back to the Dar but were hopelessly lost. Our young local man kindly guided us back to the Dar. A tip to him was money well spent! The next day we wondered back thru the Medina and souks. The shop keepers in Chefchaouen are much more laid back then Fes and Marrakesh so that made browsing a bit easier. We had a nice lunch in town before heading back on the road again. We headed to Rabat and once we arrived we checked into Riad Ziena. We walked the area again and then headed out to eat at Dar Nani Medina. We then continued walking the markets and stopped at an outdoor pastry shop for a couple of sweet desserts to celebrate my birthday. This time we actually found our way back to the Riad without assistance. A major victory for us. The next day we headed to Casablanca to visit the Hassan II. The traffic in Casablanca was the worst we experience but as usual Ismael handled it effortlessly. The mosque is absolutely beautiful and spectacularly large. The mosaic work around the mosque was worth of many pictures. We then headed back to our final destination, Marrakesh for another night. We stopped for a nice lunch along the highway before reaching the final accommodation, Palais Khum. We immediately, left to visit the square on more time, get lost in the Souks and enjoy one more meal overlooking the square. We lingered long into the night and reluctantly headed back knowing we would be leaving the next morning. The next morning before Ismael picked us up we wondered the local alleys and shops. Ismael met us at 11:30 am for our ride to the airport. We sadly said our goodbye is Ismael.
